Saint John's Primary Care Alliance Enduring Material - Sex Hormone Replacement Therapy

This CME activity will provide a comprehensive review of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and its role in the regulation of sex hormones across the lifespan. Through didactic presentations and panel discussions, faculty will examine evidence-based approaches to testosterone replacement therapy in hypogonadal men and estrogen replacement therapy in perimenopausal and menopausal women, including considerations in patients with a history of breast cancer. The activity will also address the clinical rationale, safety considerations, and regulatory landscape surrounding non-FDA-approved uses of testosterone in men and women, with an interactive question-and-answer session to facilitate practical application to patient care.

1. Explain to patients the essential elements integrating the hypothalamus, the pituitary, and the gonads in their impact on sex hormones.
2. Recognize indications, benefits, risks, and options in prescribing sex hormone therapy.
3. Differentiate FDA approved and non-approved uses of sex hormone therapy.
